According to a senior leader of the MNM party, they are planning to prepare their election manifesto by considering feedback from people at the grassroots level.
Chennai: There is a possibility that Tamil superstar and founder-president of MNM, Kamal Haasan, might contest the 2024 general elections from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency.
High-level sources in MNM have informed the INS that Kamal Haasan is interested in contesting from the Coimbatore seat, as he had put up an impressive performance in the 2021 assembly elections, despite losing to BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan by a narrow margin of 1,728 votes.
On Sunday, Kamal Haasan inaugurated the MNM’s state-level outreach campaign ‘Makkalodum Maiyam’ in the Coimbatore South assembly constituency.
MNM is planning to meet people in all 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, where party leaders and cadres will interact with people at the ward and panchayat levels to understand the challenges they are facing. This includes issues that have been neglected by elected representatives in their respective constituencies.
As per a senior party member, MNM will prepare its electoral manifesto based on the feedback received from people at the grassroots level. Each ward secretary has been given a list of 25 basic amenities in their areas through a Google form, and the feedback will be used to get a clear picture of each polling segment.
Sources from MNM have revealed that the district officials of Coimbatore had already urged the party to field Kamal Haasan from the Coimbatore seat for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
It is worth noting that recently, Kamal Haasan had gifted a car to Sharmila, a bus driver from Tamil Nadu, who was fired from her job after a dispute with a conductor employed by DMK leader Kanimozhi. Kamal Haasan’s gesture of presenting a car as a gift to Sharmila, who resides in Coimbatore, is also seen as a step to gain popularity in the region by the Tamil superstar.
